Reply. The Council of Ephesus denies that the effect of the
priesthood pertains to Christ.[1561] The reason is that Christ
as man was already most holy, full of grace, impeccable, and the
fountainhead of the entire priesthood. Thus the sun illumines but is
not illumined. This is clearly expressed by St. Paul, for he
says: "Who [Christ] is innocent, needeth not daily, as the other
priests, to offer sacrifices first for His own sins."[1562]
