Reply. It is denied that the human nature should be assumed by the
Word in all individuals: 1. because the multitude of supposita which
are natural to human nature, would thus be taken away; 2. because
this would be derogatory to the divinity of the incarnate Son of God
since He is the first-born of many brethren according to the human
nature, even as He is the first-born of every creature according to
the divine nature. Finally, divine wisdom demands this
subordination, for St. Paul says: "For all are yours, and you
are Christ's, and Christ is God's."[714] It must be noted
that, if the Son of God had assumed the individualized nature of all
human beings, then all human beings would have been impeccable.
